I had very good company. I enjoyed watching the meal being cooked at my table. The food was well cooked and tasty. I had egg fried rice and chicken. The others had steak, scallops, and shrimp. Everyone liked what they ordered. The place was a little noisy. But otherwise I had an enjoyable evening.
Fun restraunt and great food
Food is soon good. Cooking table. Or all you can eat sushi!
The food is great. I love the food. The service however is the problem. They'll have you wait around 20 minutes before you even get started on your drinks, and this is even when the restaurant is empty.
Best eggs Ive ever had!
I admire this restaurant a lot. theres a very special spirit. The kitcen is tasty. the service is powerful and the personel is courteous. The price is satisfactory. profoundly recommend.
First time eating at Yamato and I have to say it was great! We went for teppanyaki and I thought it was very cool that they had room for smaller groups. There were two of us and we had our own table and our own chef. He was very friendly and funny. He also made a heart for us which was awesome. I highly recommend it. It was a lot of fun!
The customer service is always prompt, excellent character, welcoming staff members. I will come back again when I get in town.
A nice Japanese restaurant. It has all the staples. The sushi was good. And the hibachi grilled food was delicious. Would be good for the waiters to ask if its a persons first visit and explain a little. Overall a good place.
The three special rolls we ordered were too sweet- it really threw the flavor off. Also, one of them had some sort of fried rice patty that was impossible to chew. The place has really gone down hill since it was bought by the new owners.
Very dirty inside and food was not very good
First time patron. The hostess squeezed my party of 5 into a hibachi table, so that was a great start. The chef interacted with us and performed the fire trick for the kids a 2nd time bc it was such a hit the 1st time. Food was tasty, as was my honey bourbon cocktail. The hibiscus ice is a nice touch. I didnt learn until after we left the restaurant that my 2 girls didnt get their main order of shrimp for dinner, but we all had a shrimp app in the beginning. All in all, it was a good experience.
If you want to spend nice time with family while enjoying a nice entertaining food experience this the pace to go
Good and clean Japanese style restaurant. Some plates, like mussels and dynamite were outstanding. But some plates (Caterpillar roll, scallop sushi) were a total miss by all means.
The chef makes it worth going here!
Best hibachi restaurant this side of the valley! The filet mignon is always cooked to perfection, service can be slow at times but the chefs are always on point.
Awkward service. Two in our party, and seated quickly, but not even greeted for about 10 minutes. After being greeted, we ordered drinks, and then another waitress greeted us and asked for our drink order. The sushi(that I ordered as a meal) was brought out well in advance before my guestβs meal, so she had to watch me eat while waiting for her meal. The sushi was nothing to be impressed about. It didnβt have a fresh taste. You just donβt get what you pay for here.
This spot is first-rate and spacious, the meals was enchanting and the rates were very inexpensive. quickly, efficient service and very friendly staff members. Highly recommended.
Love the food and the service. Count it like 2 meals.....one while there and plenty of GREAT leftovers. I just wish other guests would give a little extra tip to the teppan chef who works so hard to entertain. New owners are present and appreciative.
A family favorite for birthdays and special occasions. We enjoy the Teppan table food and "show". $$$ out of 4 $$$$
They serve big dishes and for convenient pricing. super friendly staff. Kudos.
This place never fails to deliver. They have fresh dishes for fair prices, there no long wait even when the place is packed.
My favorite restaurant. It is ALWAYS great!! Food and service are always excellent. Have to get a take home box and I enjoy it just as much the next day! On the more expensive side but worth every penny! I try to eat there once a month.
Food was a 5 star experience, but they no longer accepted my gift card. Kind of ruined everything. Blamed it on the new owners. Didn't know it changed.
Fresh food, great service, no wait
Excellent and flavorful food, I liked the ambience the place has, and the workers were kind. Will surely come back.
It was yummy and the staff was friendly. I'd say it's a definite yes for a birthday celebration! I got the chicken and it was pretty good, alittle on the dry side but I also tried their steak and that was great! Meal comes with soup, salad, rice, veggies and shrimp along with your entree, so plenty of food! Its loud, just a warning but it is fun and the noise is apart of the experience. Overall good place to visit if you're in Simi and slightly cheaper than their well know competitor
Good food, but: they brought the salad and the soup at the same time making it feel rushed. Then they started bringing the food cart to cook right away. What has happened to the way they would let you relax between courses. Before they would also serve the "shrimp appetizer", before the ordered entre, today it was all jumbled with the veggies and main course of meat. We came here instead of Musashi because dinner was served nicely. NOW THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. I'll just cook at home next time. OH! Also, there was no show! Not entertaining at all. They raise the prices, and give you less.
Lovely place to relax with friends or celebrate your special occasion!
Of the 12 people that were there 8 people told me that they did not enjoy their food
Walked in and sat right down. We've eaten at a lot of Japanese steakhouses and while this isn't on the same playing field as Benihana, it still does the trick. Tables are a little sticky but the service is really good and it's fun to bring the family here. Just don't expect fine dining.
Stopped by just before closing, staff was nice and helpful. Sat at the sushi bar, jose the sushi chief was fantastic, excellent service. Jose was extremely helpful with menu. Great prices, good value, will return.
Very very tasty dragon rolls, and good draft Sapporo. And the girls are so pretty...
Adorable Teppan spot off the 101. We love the back room, very cozy with just four small grill tops.
Yamato's is going through an ownership change. It's unfair to rate it as of April 2019. We will give it a couple of months and post something then.
The food is great and the staff are great too. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it needs a face lift. It is not inviting for someone who is not familiar with their food. It looks run down.
I go to this place a lot for lunch. The Teppan chefs are great. The sushi is decent, could be a little fresher imo, but I still chow down on a happy roll whenever I'm there.
Absolutely amazing food! Better than BENIHANA & MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE! $$$
I go to this special place many times since I like the good mood that is part of this restaurant. The team is exceptionally attentive and skilfull. The service is very quick. Not to mention, the food you eat is great. I visited more than once and I was always joyful. The payment is reasobable. I recommend this place to to everybody.
Our waiter was drunk and reeked of alcohol. The restaurant smelled like cleaner. I understand it was under new management but it was horrible. The Landing is down the street and better in every way. My wife had a tempura dinner and I had 2 rolls. Hers was ok mine were sub par. Sorry, won't go back.
Yamato was very crowded, but we only had a few minute wait. The service was quick and our cook at the table was very good. Simon was funny and we enjoyed our meal. It was a good experience and we will be going back.
Food was delicious and service was amazing. Our waiter was so accommodating for our 20 people party w/ multiple checks
Yamato is a friendlier version of Benihana in my opinion. I have been to both, and always prefer Yamato to the poor customer service of Benihana restaurants I have visited. Yamato also has a more spacious floor plan that keeps restaurant goers from feeling trapped halfway through your meal! The Teppanyaki chefs at Yamato have consistently taken time to not only keep the table lively, but to explain various cooking styles, sauces, and meats they are using or would suggest. When I had less time at my disposal I enjoyed sitting at the bar during happy hour, getting a beer, and ordering sushi rolls. Dave, the Wednesday evening bartender, always made sure I was fed & that my glass was never empty! Even at the busiest times Yamato is the best choice. More food, better prices, and better customer service! Lunch time here is the best deal.
The food is excellent, the only con I had was that it took the waiter a while to come with our appetizer. My kids started to get impatient and hungrier.
Beautiful, relaxing environment with delicious Japanese food.
My husband and I got sick from food poisoning after eating here. We started to feel bad the same night we had dinner and it was really bad next two days. It took us 5 days for recovery. We will fill out a report to the Public Heath. We should have just walked out after seeing how dirty the restroom is. It looks like was never cleaned. Seriously dirty.
Delicious food. Pretty much anything is what I would recommend
OMG stay away I think our waitress was drunk. She took down everyone's drink order but mine and then walked away. After that she disappeared for 20 minutes until I got up to say something. Then the chef cam out and gave us all a dirty look leaving us feeling very awkward as he cooked out food. Never again.
